Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

Since tomorrow is Halloween I decided to do some research and write a little about the origins and symbols of this holiday. I also wanted to pose the question, “Should Christians celebrate Halloween?” This may seem like a no-brainer to the average Christian, but more and more, the church is embracing the world and /or watering down and sugar-coating the truth so as to not offend anyone. Something that is becoming more prevalent in American churches is the “fall festival/harvest” which is just a synonym for Halloween. It does not matter that kids are not in costume, the mere fact that an activity is done in place of, is enough to partake in it. Hence, I felt compelled to touch upon this topic and pray that believers may come to the light and stop offending God.  This is what I found out about Halloween… check it out.  What Does the Bible Say? Halloween is a holiday of death not just because of the costumes, macabre theme or movies but because of its meaning (more on that...

Young Women Love God Greatly Bible (NET)

"Young Women Love God Greatly Bible (NET)" by Thomas Nelson This is my first time reading the NET and the “Love God Greatly” ministry. Let me preface this review by saying that I’m almost strictly KJV only but sometimes I like to look up certain passages in other versions to compare the text. I was impressed with the wording after reading a little through the NET. The NET contains many translation notes explaining why some words or verses were omitted, so I appreciate that. I still prefer the KJV but the NET is very understandable, albeit, very different from what I’m used to.  About this bible, be prepared to receive a BIG chunky tome. I personally like personal-size Bibles but also enjoy having chunkers as well. This also means that it is jammed-packed with extra stuff.  Features Book introductions & memory verses for each book of the Bible 50 reading plans for reading through Scripture using the SOAP method 10 topical reading plans about life’s issues, such as fe...

KJV Thompson Chain-Reference Bible (Zondervan)

KJV Thompson Chain-Reference Bible by Zondervan As a long-time fan and user of the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible, I was excited when I was given the opportunity to review this new edition by Zondervan. When I found out that Zondervan had bought the Thompson from Kirkbride, I was a little worried, to be honest. Kirkbride is the original publisher of the Thompson so when I heard that it was sold to another publisher I was worried that the features in this Bible that so many of us love would be altered. Well, I had never been happier to be wrong! Zondervan has left the cyclopedia, the chains, charts, pictures, map, index, all of it completely intact. I think they even improved upon it and made the Thompson even a little better. Zondervan has obviously added their own flair but without compromising the content, and I appreciate that greatly.  Below I have made some comparisons between Kirkbride and Zondervan and what the buyer can expect from this new edition. A Moment

When I was 16, I went through a depression phase. I felt unloved and unworthy of happiness. I knew in the back of my mind, that God loved me but it was difficult to relate it to my life. I knew that Jesus died for me so that I could live in complete freedom. I knew that He could hear my prayers, I never doubted any of it. But my knowledge of these Truths couldn't break through and overflow my spirit. No song, no sermon, no word, no hug could shatter the lies of the enemy. No one could understand the pain inside my heart but there was One who was watching everything and felt the hurt in my tears. Then one day, as I meditated on life and sunk deep into my melancholy ponderings, I asked my Father aloud, "Who am I, that You would love me enough to die for me?" I was not expecting an answer but in that precious, gentle, loving voice that I had grown to recognize and love He said, "You are WORTH dying for, my daughter." What months of shallow reassurances, soulfu...

The King's Portion

The serpent king's table is a cheap copy, therefore... I refuse to let the lies of the past take root in my heart again For in search of much, I received nothing The evil of this world has a way of requiring much and give pain as the prize In my attempt to be a Daniel, I became a David I knew to refuse the king's portion But like David, curiosity ruled my heart Oh YAHWEH! That I would undo the consequences of my sin! It's no longer there, it's a fight, it's a broken a sin I no longer belong where I once congregated I never belonged at the foot of the serpent king's table Bathing in delicacies I will instead taste the sweets from the Rightful King's portion And in His presence, I shall abide forever!

This Fight

Did I lose the fight?  Was it even a fight? I've lived 19 years and just realized I've been fighting the wrong fight Teach me to be a loser Because we all know how to be victors But what when we lose?  We come wanting to win But what of those moments when life seems to have beaten us?  Did we not come with instructions for that? We need to learn to lose Because in our loss we are victors How? In our acceptance of failure we are made great through Him who won it for us Note: I wrote this poem in the summer following my second semester of college (2011)

Apart But Never Far

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep I was pondering on the impact my long distance relationship has had on my life. It has been a long, rough road and far from easy. So I decided to write this impromptu post, hoping that it may help others in the same situation as myself or perhaps be an encouragement to couples in general. I'm no love guru, what I share is what I have learned from personal experience and so I pray it may be of blessing to you, my dear reader. Relationships in general are work. I don't even have to say this, everyone that is or has been in a relationship understands how much time and work is poured out to caring for and loving another. It takes prayer, communication, time, effort, honesty, trust, loyalty, and fidelity for a godly relationship to work, whether your significant other lives next door or a thousand miles away. I do not want to say that long distance relationships are so much more harder than normal relationships but I do want to say that...

Romans 2

P aul is addressing the Christian Jews particularly in this chapter. As the chosen children of YAH, the Hebrew people were entrusted with the laws of Adonai, the safeguarding of the oral traditions, and borne the responsibility to promulgate the Good News of the life, death, and resurrection of Yeshua. The problem Paul saw as a result, was the volume of boasting, hypocrisy and careless judgment amongst the Jews toward the Gentiles. In his exhortation, Paul reminds the people that it is inexcusable to judge others, especially, when they are guilty of the same sin(s). The judgment of YAH will fall upon those who practice such things. Not to forget, that in trying to remove the  speck from our brethren's eye, we fail to notice the plank in our own eyes ( Matthew 7:5 ). It is through the graciousness and goodness of YAH that we come to repentance through our Meshiach. There is no reason for boasting, since everything we have is unmerited; a gracious gift from YAH. Paul warns ...

Why Chanan and Hebrew Terms?

Why Redeeming Chanan? Chanan is the Hebrew root word for grace/favor. It is through YAH's chen that we have not perished. No words, no amount of time, no monument, no books, no songs, no poems, not even the most worthy tribute could ever succinctly convey gratitude enough for our Savior Yeshua Ha'Meshiach. We are redeemed from our sins daily. Redemption did not culminate at the cross, it was just the beginning! We are redeemed through the precious blood of Yeshua ( Ephesians 1:5-7 ). Thus, I could not find a more fitting name for the blog. Why Hebrew terms and names? Must we be Jews in order to call God, YAHWEH? Certainly not. However, God is not YAHWEH's name, that is His title. It's the same as if you were to be called, Mr. Mrs. or Miss. Only recently, has YAH convicted me to call upon HIS NAME. And so I shall. As for Hebrew terms, well, why not? May YAH not permit me to write untruth but may He use this platform to proclaim nothing but the Truth; all glory belon...
